Pan American Games 1983

The IX. Pan American Games were played from August 14 to 29, 1983 in the Venezuelan capital Caracas .

The most successful nation was the United States with a total of 285 medals.

For the first time in the history of sports, Manfred Donike conducted reliable tests for testosterone consumption at the Games . A total of 19 athletes, mostly weightlifters , were convicted of doping . Many athletes, including 13 Americans, then withdrew their reports.
