Phil Leeds

Phil Leeds (born April 6, 1916 in New York City , New York , † August 16, 1998 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Phil Leeds was born in 1916 in New York City, the son of a postal clerk. He started out in the entertainment business as a peanut seller in the baseball stadiums in his hometown and as a stage comedian. Before joining the Army during World War II , he had a brief career on Broadway . After his release, he starred in a number of films and television comedies, including Rosemary's Baby and Ghost Message from Sam (as the hospital ghost ). He had guest appearances in the series Friends and Crazy About You, among others . At the age of 80 he starred in an episode of the sitcom Roseanne (season 9, episode 7), in which Roseanne finds herself in a spooky 90s version of the film "Rosemary's Baby". Leeds played the role of the Satanist "Dr. Shand ”in the original from 1968.

Phil Leeds died of pneumonia at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles at the age of 82 .
