action

Johnny has just been released from prison and finds a job in New York City as a cook at the Greek-run Apollo Cafe . In this, the single Frankie works as a waitress. One day Johnny asks her if she wants to go out with him, but Frankie refuses. Due to bad experiences with previous relationships, she prefers to be alone. Her only caregiver is her homosexual neighbor Tim. But Johnny doesn’t let up and for a colleague’s farewell party he picks up Frankie from home and they both go to the party together. In the course of the evening, the two get closer and finally end up in Frankie's apartment, where they sleep together. Frankie feels more and more hemmed in by Johnny as he explains to her that he loves her and that she also wants to marry. Frankie can't handle it and feels overwhelmed. Johnny discovers that both of them grew up in Altoona, Pennsylvania and that they haven't had a partner in three years. Johnny divorced his wife three years ago, and Frankie's boyfriend at the time began dating her then best friend. Johnny learns that she was hit by another friend and that she lost her baby because of it and can no longer have children. Eventually, Frankie can overcome her relationship fears and in the end both find each other.
