Pan American Games 1991

The XI. Pan-American Games were played from August 2 to 18, 1991 in the Cuban capital Havana . Havana was named as the host after the city was defeated in the bid for the Pan American Games in 1987 Indianapolis.

4,519 athletes from 39 countries competed for medals in 32 sports. For the first time bowling was in the program of the games. The most successful nation was host Cuba with 140 gold medals. The United States won a total of 352 medals, more than any other nation.

The main venue was the Estadio Panamericano de Cuba .
