Gösta Sundqvist wrote the group's songs. Stylistically, there was often a melancholy mood and tragicomic elements in the lyrics. Stylistically, the music ranged between folk, pop, sometimes rock or even reggae. Leevi and the Leavings are considered to be representatives of the " Suomirock " and despite the English-language band name, all lyrics are exclusively in Finnish. Sundqvist and Leevi and the Leavings enjoyed and enjoy a high level of popularity in Finland, although the group did not perform live and was otherwise very closed to the media. The most popular songs today include “Teuvo, maanteiden kuningas”, “Sopivasti lihava” and “Rin Tin Tin”.

From 1990 on Sundqvist also worked for the Finnish radio station Radiomafia . He wrote some humorous contributions.
