history
Finds from the Early Bronze Age show early settlement in the Telfer area. In 1976 a cave was uncovered in the Gallhof area while building a road. In the approximately 8 × 2 × 1.5 m large gap, sulphate-containing dripping water collects , which was probably the cause of a spring sanctuary from the Latène period . During subsequent excavations, around a hundred intact bowls and jugs as well as fragments from as many again were found. 43 Astragali (bone dice) as well as some of the vessels bore inscription-like but indecipherable incisions. The finds date from the Middle La Tène period (4th to 3rd century BC).
The place name is derived from an Indo-European language root "* tellevo", which means something like usable soil . The place was first mentioned in 1133 as Telves . The population of Telfes is called Telfer (not Telfeser ). The reason is the Rhaeto-Romanic origin of the place name. This ends with the Latin nominative ending -s, therefore derivatives are formed without -s .
This was the seat of the court for the Stubai Valley before it was moved to Mieders in 1690 . The blacksmith's trade has been documented since 1541. Iron production was added later, which promoted the wealth of the place. Even today, numerous representations of iron makers on the old farms of the village bear witness to this tradition that brings luck to the valley.
As of October 15, 2018, the addresses were changed to 43 new street names.
