history
Oberperfuss, as evidenced by prehistoric finds from the Neolithic (Krimpenbachalm) and Iron Age (Scheibenbühel), can be described as an old settlement area. Finds from the La – Tene and Roman times (Birgl) are also kept in the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum . The first written mention of the village comes from the year 1083. At that time Nortpert, Bishop of Chur , gave the Habach monastery near Weilheim in Upper Bavaria a. a. a good for " Upper Peru ". Where the name Oberperfuss actually comes from is still not fully understood. For place name researchers it is clear that the name is to be regarded as pre-Roman.
Owners of goods in Oberperfuss were, among other things, sovereign offices, the monasteries Wilten, Stams and Chiemsee, various churches (Hall, Kematen, Axams ...) and noble lords, such as the Counts of Friedberg, von Kripp, von Piedenegg u. a. Politically, Oberperfuss was probably assigned to the county of Unterinntal before the 13th century, but was then attached to the Hörtenberg court and is now part of the Telfs judicial district.
According to the Inntaler tax book of 1312, there were around 300 rural residents in Oberperfuss at that time, plus artisans and wage workers. Around the year 1600 there were probably already about 800 inhabitants. According to the last census in 2001, there were 2,712 people in the community. The majority of the residents are out-commuters, especially to the state capital Innsbruck.
