Felix Kuen

Felix Kuen (born March 22, 1936 in Innsbruck ; † January 23, 1974 in Absam ) was an Austrian mountaineer .

Life

Felix Kuen grew up in Oberperfuss and began climbing tours in the Kalkkögel at an early age . Later, in addition to numerous difficult Alpine tours, he also managed a few first ascents and first winter ascents. In 1970, Kuen was invited to Herrligkoffer's seventh Nanga Parbat expedition, where he and Peter Scholz successfully climbed the Rupal Wall ( Sigi Löw Memorial Expedition to Nanga Parbat ).

On January 23, 1974, Felix Kuen committed suicide in his Absamer apartment.

Scholz and Kuen have to bivouac for one night on the descent to approx. 8000 m

  • Sugar Loaf (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), 1972 first ascent of the north face.
