Peter Scholz (mountaineer)

Peter Scholz (born November 14, 1943 Schweidnitz , Silesia , † July 18, 1972 on Mont Blanc ) was a German mountaineer .

Life

Peter Scholz grew up in Munich and began climbing in the Alps at an early age , at the end of the 1960s he was one of the best German mountaineers.

In 1968 he was invited by Karl Maria Herrligkoffer to the Toni Kinshofer memorial expedition to the Nanga Parbat. Scholz and Wilhelm Schloz reached the maximum height of this expedition in the Rupal flank of 7200 meters. Two years later he was a member of the Siegi Löw commemorative expedition to Nanga Parbat by Herrligkoffer. He and Felix Kuen successfully climbed the Rupalwand for the second time .

On July 18, 1972, Peter Scholz had a fatal accident on the icy south ridge of the Aiguille Noire (Peuterey ridge, Mont Blanc massif).

  • Nanga Parbat Sigi Löw memorial expedition 1970, Scholz and Felix Kuen successfully climb the main summit through the Rupal wall (2nd ascent), route variation in the exit on the left around the pre-summit; Reinhold and Günther Messner had passed the pre-summit on the right during the first ascent the day before. Scholz and Kuen have to bivouac for one night on the descent to approx. 8000 m
  • Rakaposhi Expedition 1971, attempt to climb the main summit is not reached on this expedition
