Stephanie Venier (born December 19, 1993 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian ski racer . She belongs to the A-team of the ÖSV and mainly competes in the downhill and super-G disciplines .

biography

Venier comes from Oberperfuss in Tyrol . Her sister Bianca was also an alpine skier, but ended her career in October 2018.

From December 2008, Stephanie Venier took part in FIS races , initially mainly in the giant slalom and slalom disciplines . In the 2009/10 season she started regularly in the top ten at this level, at the Austrian junior championships she took second place in the Super-G. Then she gradually specialized in the fast disciplines. Her first appearance in the European Cup was on January 11th, 2012, when she finished 19th on the downhill from Bad Kleinkirchheim straight away in the points. Three weeks later she won the Austrian Super G Junior Championship.

On December 12, 2012, Venier achieved a top 10 placement in a European Cup race for the first time in the downhill from St. Moritz . She made her debut in the World Cup on January 12, 2013 on the downhill run from St. Anton am Arlberg , where she finished 39th. On February 5, 2013 she was third in the Super-G of Sella Nevea for the first time on the podium of a European Cup race. At the following Junior World Championship in 2013 , she won the gold medal in the Super-G and the silver medal in the downhill. At the end of the season she became Austrian Super G champion (albeit in the absence of numerous top runners).

Venier won his first World Cup points on November 30, 2013 when he finished 27th in the Super-G at Beaver Creek . At the Junior World Championship in 2014 , she won the silver medal in the Super-G. During training for the World Cup descent in Bad Kleinkirchheim on January 10, 2015, she suffered a cartilage detachment in her left knee, which ended the season prematurely for her.

In the next two seasons it was able to increase continuously. In December 2015, on the downhill of Lake Louise , she managed to make it into the top 10 of a World Cup race for the first time in tenth place. She was able to repeat this result in the Super-G in Cortina d'Ampezzo . She started the 2016/17 season strongly with a seventh place in the Lake Louise Downhill and a sixth place in the Super-G of Val-d'Isère . In the Super-G of Garmisch-Partenkirchen , she achieved her first podium in the World Cup with second place behind Lara Gut . During her first participation in the World Championship on February 12, 2017, she won the silver medal in downhill skiing in St. Moritz . It was only because Anna Veith had renounced the race in question and, thanks to a coach's decision, moved up to the four-man ÖSV squad. On January 27, 2019, she celebrated her first World Cup victory in the downhill from Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
