The Roßkogel is a mountain in the Stubai Alps (Northern Sellrainer Mountains) with a height of 2646  m above sea level. A. In addition to the Serles and the Nockspitze , the Roßkogel, west of Innsbruck, is a striking mountain figure in the Stubai Alps when viewed from the state capital.

The mountain lies north of Gries im Sellrain and forms a quadruple border point with the communities of Inzing , Oberperfuss and Sellrain (clockwise). The rugged Weißstein ( 2640  m ) is about 500 meters southwest of the Roßkogel . To the northeast, the Roßkogel sends a ridge that leads over the Krimpenbachsattel ( 1896  m ) to Rangger Köpfl ( 1939  m ). To the east, a ridge runs from the Roßkogel down over the Kögele ( 2195  m ) in the direction of Oberperfuss.

The Roßkogelhütte

The summit of the Roßkogel can be easily reached via a path from the Sellrainer district of St. Quirin or from the Roßkogelhütte just below the Rangger Köpfl . The summit cross stands on the eastern summit, which is a few meters lower than the western summit, but offers a more beautiful view. The transition from the Roßkogel to the Weißstein requires climbing grade II on the UIAA scale . This is also the easiest ascent to the Weißstein.
