history
The sunny slopes of Ellbögen on the Patscherkofel were settled in prehistoric times, in 1967 Illyrian cremation graves were found in St. Peter . After the immigration of the Bavarians , the counts of Andechs and later the sovereigns of Tyrol were the largest landowners. In 1031, in an ( unauthorized ) deed of donation by Arnold I von Morit, Vogt of the Brixen bishop's church , to Benediktbeuern monastery, the "villa Taerzins" (district of Tarzens) was mentioned. Elbögen itself is recorded in a list of interest payers of the Schäftlarn monastery from 1170 to 1173 as "elbows" .
The 23 km long “Salt Road” from Hall in Tirol via Ampass , Patsch and Ellbögen on to Matrei am Brenner , today's Ellbögener Straße (L 38), was of great importance for the community . This connection between the Lower Inn Valley and the Wipptal was probably created by the Romans. A brisk traffic developed through the salt works in Hall, a customs post was established in Ruggschrein. Numerous restaurants and the blacksmith's shop on the Mühltaler Bridge, mentioned in 1395, characterize the haulage. The road has repeatedly served as a route for troops during historical war events.
In the 16th and 17th centuries, the mining of copper and sulfur pyrites was of economic importance in the Viggar and Doctor valleys. The ore from the doctor's valley is said to have been used to cast the "Black Mander" in the Innsbruck court church . The ore had to be brought over long distances to the smelter in Ehrwald , which made mining in 1649 unprofitable.
The parish church, which is essentially Gothic, was built in 1472 and redesigned in Baroque style towards the end of the 18th century.
Also worth seeing is the mill on the Falkasanerbach. The Hinterloch mill is located in Innerellbögen towards the doctor valley. The year 1738 is engraved on the pinwheel, which probably indicates the renewal of this part of the gear. Since the mill was in operation until 1951 and the comb wheel was still functional up to this point in time, the age of the mill can perhaps be set higher by this period (approx. 200 years). Foam meals are carried out in summer.
