Franz Weber (organ builder)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Weber (born July 1, 1825 in Oberperfuss ; † April 15, 1914 there ) was an Austrian organ builder .

Life

Franz Weber learned from his father Mathias Weber and after his death took over the organ building workshop in 1848. His first own organ work was created in 1848 for the church in Mathon in the Paznaun Valley. In the spring of 1852 he was with Joseph Pröbstl in Füssen , where he first became acquainted with Johann Gottlob Töpfer's apprenticeship in organ building . In a report on the completion of the organ (1855) for the parish church of Bruneck in the Puster Valley it was recorded that Weber had brought several innovations and technical improvements from his study trip to Germany.

Mainly he built organs for the Oberinntal area including side valleys, also in the Ausserfern , in Innsbruck and the surrounding area, in the Zillertal, in East Tyrol, in South Tyrol in the Stubai Valley, Wipptal and Pustertal, also in Vorarlberg, Salzburg and Upper Bavaria.

Weber was the last of the Tyrolean organ builders to hold onto the sliding chest.
