history
The community was first mentioned in the 13th century. The name Mils comes from the Latin word "molere" (mill), because Mils lies on an alluvial cone , where mills used to be often found and the rocks falling down from the Larsenn Gorge were ground. The area around Mils is often called "on the Mils".
Church history
On a small hill in the village is the parish church , which was built in honor of the plague saint Sebastian . This church was first mentioned in a letter of indulgence in 1451. In the 19th century the old church was replaced by a new building.

Culture and sights
Milser Au
The Milser Au is a nearby recreation area on the Inn. The Au is a remnant of the formerly extensive river-accompanying forest in the Inn Valley , which has been strongly pushed back as a result of the massive transformation of the natural landscape by humans to create cultivated land, settlement area, but also for infrastructure facilities and the associated clearing. The Milser Au has an area of about 36.8 hectares and is the last larger alluvial forest area in the Upper Inn Valley . As early as 1987, the forest complex was placed under protection as a protected part of the landscape according to the Tyrolean nature conservation law. The main landowner of the forest complex is the Mils Agricultural Community . The strip of gray alder directly on the Inn is public property and is the responsibility of the water engineering authority. Due to the location of the forest complex in the valley floor area, the stands have an important climate-regulating function for the settlement area, the sports facility and the Mils motorway service station. The alluvial forest area is visited by many people looking for relaxation from the surrounding area (small regional recreation area). The alluvial forest area is also used as pre- and post-grazing for cattle and as home pasture during the summer, which has an adverse effect on the population from grazing cattle. In the past, the alder stocks were sustainably managed for the production of firewood. The storm of July 21, 2003 caused extensive damage to the extent of around 7 hectares , especially in the southern part of the alluvial forest area. Due to this extent of damage, in the following years the use of wood in the Milser Au was limited to the processing of damaged wood. In 2008 a revitalization program for the Au began.
Larsenn Gorge
Between Milserberg and Lasaltnerwand , the Larsennbach erupts from a wild and deep gorge, which is special in this region due to its classic shape, its unfathomableness, its depth and its proximity to the valley. Many climbers come to conquer this gorge. The source rises in the municipality of Schönwies, then the stream briefly changes to the municipality of Mils and at the end it forms the border between the districts of Imst and Landeck.
Economy and Infrastructure
The community is freed from through traffic and the corresponding traffic noise through a motorway tunnel. The Trofana Tyrol rest stop , which was built in 2002 at the Mils junction of the Inntal Autobahn , brings jobs and income to the community.
Due to the convenient proximity to the motorway, the industrial park established by the community attracted several smaller and larger businesses to Mils and, with additional income, ensures a comparatively favorable state of community finances.
A day clinic for outpatient surgery has recently been opened in the Mils / Imst border area. The two municipalities share local taxes.
Due to the location of Mils between the two district capitals and industrial locations Imst and Landeck and the proximity to the tourist strongholds of Austria, many residents have found jobs as commuters in the surrounding region.
tourism
As a quiet, small community in a convenient location with a rural appearance, Mils offers holiday apartments and small pensions as a vacation spot for families, athletes or those looking for relaxation.

coat of arms
The coat of arms symbolizes the centuries-old border position of the municipality between the courts of Imst and Landeck . The horseshoes are reminiscent of the pre-tensioning services that the Mils farmers performed with their draft cattle for the carts moving through the steep sections of the road near Lasalt and Gstoag .
