Josef Thurner

Josef Thurner (born August 25, 1927 in Imsterberg -Endsfeld, Tyrol ) is an Austrian pathologist .

The May-Thurner syndrome is named after him.

Life

Josef Thurner

Josef Thurner, grew up in Mils near Imst , attended high schools in Landeck and Innsbruck. Interrupted by military service until 1945 and American prisoner-of-war in Steyr, he was finally able to successfully complete his Matura in 1947. He then completed a medical degree in Innsbruck with a doctorate as a Dr. med. univ. in 1953. He then received specialist training at the Medical Faculty of the University of Innsbruck . He was awarded the Venia legendi or habilitation as a university lecturer for the subject of general and special pathology and pathohistology in 1961. He was included in the proposals for the professorships of the universities of Innsbruck, Vienna and Berlin. In 1964 he was appointed head of the Institute for Pathology at the State Clinics in Salzburg. He was appointed associate professor by the Federal President in 1968. In 1993 he retired .

Josef Thurner was a member of scientific societies in Germany and Austria and wrote 150 articles in medical journals.

He was the state medical officer of the state of Salzburg and honorary medical director of the general nursing school of the state hospital in Salzburg.
