Catholic parish church of the Assumption in Schröcken

The Roman Catholic parish church Schröcken is located in the Bregenzerwald community of Schröcken in the Bregenz district in Vorarlberg . It is dedicated to the feast of the Assumption of Mary and belongs to the dean's office in Hinterwald in the diocese of Feldkirch . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery.

history

The church was originally a branch church of the Lech parish . The first was consecrated in 1639. It was elevated to a chaplaincy church in 1640 and a parish church in 1661. The original church was enlarged between 1726 and 1732 and restored in 1773. The church tower dates from 1785, the spire was put on in 1786. After a fire in 1863, the church was rebuilt between 1864 and 1867 and consecrated in 1867.

Church exterior

The church has a neo-Romanesque nave and a slightly retracted choir. Both are under a gable roof . The porch has a triangular gable. In the north there is a steeple with a pointed helmet. The nave and the choir are not three-dimensionally structured. The tower has an octagonal upper floor with arched sound openings . There is a gable wreath between the upper floor and the pointed helmet.

The vestibule has a flat roof. From here a stairway leads to the gallery. The nave walls are broken through on both sides by three arched windows. There is a barrel vault with short stab caps above the nave . There is a heavy cornice underneath. The high triumphal arch has moved in. The choir is aligned and ends on 3/8. Above the choir is barrel vault with short stitch caps, like in the nave.

In the west of the nave is a straight double gallery, which rests on two bulging columns. The glass paintings on the windows come from the Schnitzler glass painting company in Dornbirn . In the choir St. Agnes is depicted on the left and St. Aloisius on the right .

Furnishing

The high altar is a neo-Romanesque canopy with figures by Fidelius Rudhart from 1876. The altarpiece depicts the "Assumption of Mary" and was painted in 1876 by Melchior Paul von Deschwanden . It is flanked by the figures of Saints Peter and Paul . An angel with a scepter and crown is depicted in the altarpiece. There is a crucifix and two angels at the tabernacle . The relief on the antependium shows on the left the "Sacrifice of Abraham ", in the middle " Moses and the Brazen Serpent " and on the right the "Sacrifice of Melchizedek ". The left side altar is a neo-Romanesque structure with figures by Fidelis Rudhart. In the middle, St. Anne is depicted with Mary . In the predella reliefs , St. Dorothea is depicted on the left and St. Wendelin on the right . In between is a stand cross. The right side altar is constructed in the same way as the left. The figure represents St. Joseph . The left predella relief below represents St. Theresa , the right one depicts St. Fidelis . In between there is a booth cross. The pulpit is neo-Romanesque and has reliefs of the four evangelists on the pulpit. These reliefs come from the hand of Fidelis Rudhart. The stations of the cross are from the end of the 19th century. The neo-Romanesque font with “ Lamb of God ” is from the end of the 19th century.

organ

The organ was made by Franz Weber in 1867. It was changed slightly in 1873 by Anton Behmann .
