Andreas Kofler (born May 17, 1984 in Innsbruck ) is a former Austrian ski jumper . He was a member of the national team of the ÖSV , multiple world and Olympic champion with the team at the Olympic Winter Games and winner of the Four Hills Tournament 2009/10 .

Career

Andreas Kofler made the leap into the World Cup squad of the ÖSV in the 2002/03 season and attracted attention from the start with good results. On December 12, 2002 he celebrated his first podium in the World Cup with third place in Titisee-Neustadt and just a few weeks later he finished his first Four Hills Tournament in fourth place overall.

Two less successful years followed before he achieved his final breakthrough in the world class in the 2005/06 season . Kofler celebrated his first victory in the World Cup on February 4, 2006 in Willingen , and one day later he and the team achieved second place in the team competition.

At the 2006 Winter Olympics , he won the silver medal on the large hill with a deficit of only 0.1 points on his teammate Thomas Morgenstern and the gold medal in the team competition. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo , he was also able to win the gold medal with the team in jumping on the large hill and took 6th place on the normal hill. At the end of the season he reached second place overall at the Nordic Tournament behind Adam Małysz .

The 2007/08 season started well for Kofler with second places each in the jumping competitions in Trondheim and Engelberg behind his team mate Thomas Morgenstern . In the second event in Engelberg, he fell at the daily maximum distance of 139 m, but was uninjured. At the start of the Four Hills Tournament 2007/08 in Oberstdorf , he fell again after a failed landing and crashed into the advertising delimitation. Then he fell into a form low and could not achieve good results in the World Cup in the next season. He achieved two victories in the Continental Cup .

It was not until the beginning of the 2009/10 season that Kofler achieved a podium again with third place in Engelberg. After that, at the start of the Four Hills Tournament 2009/10 in Oberstdorf, he won ahead of the Finn Janne Ahonen and finally won the overall standings from Janne Ahonen and Wolfgang Loitzl .

At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he fell well short of expectations in jumping from the normal hill with 19th place, and then missed the podium by just one point on the large hill. He won the team competition together with Wolfgang Loitzl , Thomas Morgenstern and Gregor Schlierenzauer in front of Germany and thus got his second gold medal.

The 2010/11 season began very successfully for Kofler with victory in the opening competition in Kuusamo, Finland . It was the third World Cup victory in his career. In the same season he was able to record two more wins. At the 2011 World Championships in Oslo , he and the team won the gold medal and silver on the normal hill. He just missed bronze on the large hill as fourth behind the Swiss Simon Ammann , who with his third place also prevented an Austrian triple success in this competition.

Due to back problems, Kofler had to suspend longer parts of the preparation for the 2011/12 season. Nevertheless, he was able to win the first three competitions of the season. At the end of the season he achieved his best result to date with third place behind Anders Bardal and Gregor Schlierenzauer in the overall World Cup.

In the winter of 2012/13 Kofler started weakly with the team as twelfth in Lillehammer. In the individual he did not get above 15th place on the normal hill and 23rd place on the large hill. In Kuusamo he found his old strength and jumped back into the top 10 in eighth place. At the following Olympic dress rehearsal on the ski jumps in Sochi he won his eleventh individual World Cup after a third place in the first competition on the second day. He was also at the top of the podium at the following World Cup in Engelberg. The following Four Hills Tournament 2012/13 ended Kofler in 15th place overall. He achieved his best individual placement with 13th place in Bischofshofen . In Zakopane he celebrated another podium with the team in third behind Slovenia and Poland. For the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 Kofler missed the qualification. A year later, Kofler missed qualifying for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi due to the high number of successes in the Austrian national team . In March 2014, however, he convinced again in the World Cup and was on the podium again as second from the large hill in Trondheim . In Planica he and the team celebrated another World Cup victory.

Kofler started the season 2014/15 mixed. After he was eliminated in the first round in Klingenthal, he was fourth in Ruka. He started the Four Hills Tournament 2014/15 with a fifth place in Oberstdorf. After he was well placed in Garmisch-Partenkirchen again in twelfth place, he clearly missed the final on both Austrian hills. In the end it was only enough for 23rd place overall. From the spring of 2015, Kofler also started increasingly in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup .

In October 2016, Kofler won the gold medal at the Austrian Championships 2016 in Eisenerz together with Elias Tollinger , Clemens Aigner and Manuel Fettner in the team competition. He also won bronze in the individual competition on the normal hill. There was a sense of achievement for him in December 2016 in Engelberg, when he finished third in the World Cup show jumping; it would be his last World Cup podium finish in his career.

For the 2017/18 season, Kofler was appointed to the Continental Cup squad by national coach Kuttin. At the Four Hills Tournament 2018/19 he took part in the qualification for the jumping in Austria, but missed the competition. As in the previous year, Kofler remained in the B-squad for the entire winter of 2018/19.

On May 6, 2019, Kofler announced his resignation at a press conference in Vienna and will serve the police. In September 2019, Kofler completed the first part of the ski jumping trainer training.
