Stefan Horngacher (born September 20, 1969 in Wörgl ) is a former Austrian ski jumper and current ski jumping trainer. Since April 2019 he has been the national coach of the German national ski jumping team.

Career

As a ski jumper

With the Austrian jumping team he won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in 1994 and 1998 . His best individual result at the Olympic Games was fifth in jumping from the large hill in Salt Lake City in 2002 .

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1991 in Val di Fiemme , he and the team together with Ernst Vettori , Andreas Felder and Heinz Kuttin were world champions. He also won gold at the 2001 World Championships in Lahti , the first ever team competition on the normal hill. There was also a bronze medal in Lahti and two more at the World Championships in Falun in 1993 and in Ramsau in 1999 , both in the team competition on the large hill.

Horngacher was able to win the ski flying on the Kulm in the 1991 World Cup and the jumping in Zakopane in 1999. He was also successful four times with the Austrian team in team competitions in the World Cup.

As a ski jumping trainer

After his career, Horngacher became a junior coach , first in Austria, where he worked under Hannu Lepistö , and later in Poland , where he was assistant coach to Heinz Kuttin . Since the beginning of 2006 he has been the base manager in Hinterzarten , where he trains the junior team on behalf of the German Ski Association (DSV). In addition, he temporarily supported Martin Schmitt , who was still in a severe performance low in the 2005/06 season , as a personal trainer. In 2008 he took over the B-team of the DSV. In the summer of 2011, he handed over responsibility for this to Ronny Hornschuh because he was appointed assistant coach of the world cup team by national coach Werner Schuster .

On March 24, 2016, the Polish Ski Association announced that it had hired Horngacher as the successor to the resigned head coach Łukasz Kruczek . Exactly three years later to the day, Horngacher announced his resignation as Polish national coach. During his tenure, Poland won not only the 2017 team world championship title but also bronze at the 2018 Winter Olympics . In addition, Kamil Stoch became Olympic champion and Dawid Kubacki 2019 world champion.

On April 3, 2019, the German Ski Association officially announced Horngacher's engagement as the new national coach and replaced Werner Schuster .
