The Ski Jumping World Cup 1998/99 (official name: FIS Ski Jumping World Cup 1998/99 ) was one of the International Ski Federation FIS discharged between 28 November 1998 to 21 March 1999 to 19 different locations in Europe and Asia series of competitions in ski jumping . The World Cup consisted of 29 individual and one team competition. Two individual competitions had to be canceled, but both could be rescheduled or held on a different hill. The German Martin Schmitt won the overall standings this season , followed by Janne Ahonen from Finland and Noriaki Kasai from Japan in second and third place . The Slovenian defending champion Primož Peterka took 27th place. Janne Ahonen won the ski jumping discipline, ahead of Martin Schmitt and the Japanese Kazuyoshi Funaki . Primož Peterka, who was also the defending champion in this discipline, finished 31st. Martin Schmitt was able to secure victory in the ski flying classification ahead of Noriaki Kasai and the Japanese Hideharu Miyahira . Last year's winner of this discipline, the German Sven Hannawald , took ninth place. For the third time in a row, Japan won the Nations Cup ahead of the teams from Germany and Austria .
