Kristoffer Jåfs (born July 30, 1980 in Vörå ) is a former Swedish ski jumper from Finland .
Career
Kristoffer Jåfs started ski jumping at the age of 13 after having previously practiced alpine skiing . As a member of the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland, his Finnish was not good enough to attend a sports high school in Finland, so he moved to Örnsköldsvik , Sweden . After initially traveling to national championships in Finland, he eventually took on Swedish citizenship. In the course of his career he was able to become Swedish champion seven times.
In the 1998/99 season Jåfs started in the World Cup for the first time . This season he mostly missed the second round, but was able to place in the top twenty in some competitions. He also took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau and took 29th place on the large hill and 41st on the normal hill. In the following season, 1999/2000, he did not reach the final of any World Cup competition and was often unable to compete qualify for the competition. In the summer of 2000 he took part in the Summer Grand Prix and was able to achieve better results again and placed himself in the top 15 several times. In the winter of 2000/01 he was mostly in the midfield, shortly before the end of the season, on March 9, 2001 he was in Trondheim celebrate the best result of their career with a fourth place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti , an 18th place on the normal hill was his best result. In winter 2001/2002, in addition to the World Cup, in which he always fought for a place in the second round, he also competed in a jumping of the Continental Cup . In summer 2002 he took part in several Grand Prix competitions as well as in other Continental Cups. In the winter of 2002/03, however, he entered the World Cup again, where a 21st place in Willingen was his best result of the season. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2003 in Val di Fiemme , he finished 33rd and 34th. Because of a knee injury, he could not compete in the 2003/04 season. In spring 2004 he finally announced the end of his career.
His younger sister is the footballer Nora Jåfs , who plays for Sunnanå SK in Damallsvenskan and has already played for the Finnish U17, U19 and U21 national teams.
