World Cup overview

In mid-May 2018 the FIS announced the provisional World Cup calendar. The competitions in Liberec (Czech Republic) were later relocated to Val di Fiemme, Italy. The competitions in Titisee-Neustadt were canceled due to warm weather at the beginning of December.

A novelty of the season were sensors attached to the skiers' skis, which collect data during the jump. These measure speeds (when jumping, 20 meters after the jump and when landing) and the knee angle at the take-off table, which provides information about the punctuality of the jump. The use of the sensors was voluntary; they were used for the first time at the World Cup weekend in Engelberg . Some of the data was shown to TV viewers via fade-ins when the competitions were broadcast. With the help of this data, both the training of ski jumpers should be improved and the transparency for the public increased.
