Michael Hayböck (born March 5, 1991 in Linz ) is an Austrian ski jumper . His greatest sporting successes to date have been the silver medals in the men's team competitions at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and the 2015 World Championships in Falun and 2019 in Seefeld in Tyrol, as well as with the mixed team at the 2017 World Championships in Lahti .
Career
Hayböck starts for the UVB Hinzenbach association . In 2000 he started ski jumping. In the 2002/03 and 2003/04 seasons he won the overall Landescup ranking, and in 2003/04 he also took 2nd place in the Austriacup . At the 2004 state championships in Bischofshofen , he reached 2nd place in Nordic combined and ski jumping. He was able to win the overall ranking of the FIS Schoolchildren's Cup 2005 with the team, in the individual he came in 4th place. In 2006 he was accepted into the B squad. This was the first time he started in FIS races in the adult sector. On September 20, 2008, he started in Villach for the first time in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . At the Junior World Championships in 2009 in Štrbské Pleso he won gold with the team and was seventh in the individual. In August 2009 he jumped in the Summer Grand Prix for the first time . In Hakuba he reached 12th place in both competitions. He won a total of 44 points and thus 40th place in the overall ranking.
At the Four Hills Tournament 2009/10 Hayböck started in Innsbruck as part of the national group, was able to qualify for the jumping and also reached the final with a strong jump in the first round. He then started in Bischofshofen, but was eliminated in the first round in a duel against Pascal Bodmer . At the Junior World Championships 2010 in Hinterzarten , Germany, he was able to secure the gold medals in the individual competition and in the team on the normal hill. At the World Cup competition in Willingen he reached 3rd place with the Austrian team. His best individual placement in the World Cup is a 6th place, also in Willingen 2010.
At the Four Hills Tournament 2010/11 he jumped together with his older brother Stefan in the World Cup for the first time .
On January 16, 2014 he reached the first podium of his career in jumping in Wisła and was third. At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi , he achieved 2nd place in the team competition with Thomas Morgenstern , Gregor Schlierenzauer and Thomas Diethart and fifth on the normal hill.
On January 6, 2015, he won his first World Cup competition at the Four Hills Tournament in Bischofshofen and was second in the overall standings. In Innsbruck he had previously set a hill record with 138 meters. Although Hayböck touched the snow with his hand during this jump, the jump was judged to have been made by the judges and the hill record was therefore legitimate.
Hayböck then had to wait more than a year for the next World Cup victory. In February 2016, he achieved three wins in a row: in the competitions on the large and normal hill in Lahti and on the large hill in Kuopio .
In October 2017, Hayböck injured himself as part of training preparations for the new season in Cyprus . At the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld in Tirol , he and his teammates Philipp Aschenwald , Daniel Huber and Stefan Kraft won the silver medal in team jumping. In the individual competitions he was 14th on the large hill and ninth on the normal hill.
Personal
Hayboeck attended from 2005 Skigymnasium Stams and completed 2010 graduation with honors. He has been an army athlete since July 2010. His older brother Stefan was also a ski jumper.
