The Adler-Skistadion in Hinterzarten consists of two small ski jumping hills of the categories K 15 (Energiedienst-Schanze) and K 30 (student jump), a middle hill of the category K 70 (Europa-Park-Schanze) and a normal hill of the category K 95 (Rothaus -Schanze), which are covered with matting.

Hinterzarten is the Olympic base for ski jumpers and Nordic combined athletes , national teams from several countries use the area for training. The hill is used as a training center for around 180 days a year. In addition to the annual FIS Summer GP in August, the hill is also used for the FIS Cup .

history

In 1923 the Hinterzarten ski club was founded and the first ski jump was built. However, the Kirchwaldschanze turned out to be too small. It was used as a training hill for a long time before it was given up in 1974.

In 1924 the Adlerschanze was built on the area of the " Adlerwirt " near the Scheibenfelsen. The first competition took place on February 24, 1925, according to the chronicle of the ski club, distances of up to 60 meters were achieved. In 1935 the ski jump was rebuilt and served as a preparation facility for the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . The well-known Norwegian Birger Ruud also trained in Hinterzarten and set a hill record of 71 meters, which was to hold until the next renovation in 1965. The hill enjoyed special attention during the active time of Georg Thoma , who held the hill record with 82 meters from 1965 and was seldom beaten on his home hill.

From 1976 the hill was out of date and no longer complied with the rules of the DSV . Therefore it was no longer used for international competitions. A new building was considered at the end of the 1970s, but presented the ski club with an impossible financial task. Since at around the same time the Herzogenhorn Federal Training Center needed a plastic covered hill that could be used all year round, the opportunity arose to combine the renovation of the ski jump with the construction of a plastic covered hill. Here Hinterzarten was given preference over Titisee-Neustadt . Since jumping was to take place in summer as well, but the agreement of August 29, 1924 with the Adlerwirt only allowed use in winter, this had to be renewed. In 1980 construction began, in the course of which the inrun area and take-off table were redesigned and a judges' tower, an operating building at the outlet and a chair lift (more jumps with the same training time) were newly built.

On August 29, 1982 the new ski jumping hill was opened with the 1st International Summer Jumping event, in which jumpers from ten nations took part. This competition has taken place every year since then and is now an integral part of the Summer Grand Prix . After a frost rail track had been installed in autumn 1983 for start-up conditions similar to winter, the last conversion took place in 1998/99.

The newly profiled ski jump allows jumps of up to 115 meters, and there is also a lift in the ski jump tower, a snow-making system and a floodlight system. In addition to the K 95 hill, the K 15, K 30 and K 70 hills were built in 2004 and 2005. After the Rothausschanze got its name from the Badische Staatsbrauerei of the same name , two of the three new ski jumps were named after sponsors. The namesake here were Energiedienst and Europa-Park .

On July 10th and 11th, 2004, the Swiss Ski Association, Swiss-Ski , organized the Swiss Championships in Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping in Hinterzarten . The individual competition of the latter was won by Michael Möllinger , who was born in the neighboring Titisee-Neustadt and has competed for Switzerland since 2003. From January 24th to 31st, 2010, competitions were held here as part of the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships . The Notschrei trail was used for the Nordic Combined cross-country part . In January 2011, two competitions of the women's World Cup , which was held for the first time, were held on the Rothausschanze. Between May 2010 and March 2011 there were 50 716 jumps on the four ski jumps on 229 operating days (140 in summer, 89 in winter).

Between February 11 and 14, 2013, the Adler Ski Stadium was the scene of the Dutch television program Vgende Hollanders , in which celebrities without alpine experience held a ski jumping competition after a week's training. The participants were trained by Hans-Paul Herr , the ski jumping regional trainer , the former ski jumper Stephan Hocke and the junior trainer of SC Hinterzarten and former hill boss Karl Hassler. The three recorded programs were broadcast on the Dutch television station SBS 6 on February 22nd, March 1st and March 8th. The winner of Vgende Hollanders was TV presenter Chimène van Oosterhout, followed by actor Koert-Jan de Bruijn and rapper Keizer.

The ascent aid from 1980 in April 2013

The chairlift used as an ascent aid would have had to be modernized by the end of 2013 in order to comply with the applicable safety standards and to be able to obtain another operating permit from the State Office for Geology, Raw Materials and Mining . As an alternative to this, a new building in the form of an inclined elevator was decided, the construction of which was initially estimated at EUR 800,000 and later at EUR 1,000,000. In 2012 it was possible to raise the financial means: 100,000 euros was to be taken over by the municipality of Hinterzarten, 450,000 euros by the state of Baden-Württemberg, 350,000 by the German Sports Association and 100,000 euros by the district.

The approval planning for the inclined elevator was approved by the Hinterzarten municipal council on March 19, 2013. The construction contracts could only be awarded after the planning approval procedure had been completed. The construction of the plant by the Rasdorf-based manufacturer Wiegand should have started in June 2013 and should have taken about half a year. However, the negotiations lasted longer, so that the contract could not be awarded until October 2014. Back in April 2014, the DSV had canceled the Summer Grand Prix for the first time in 32 years and gave preference to the Klingenthaler Vogtland Arena . In the season that ended in spring 2014, 29,811 jumps were carried out on 187 operating days of the four hills, 20,221 of which on 128 operating days between mid-May and the end of October 2013. These were carried out by 2523 athletes, mainly from Germany, including Carina Vogt and Andreas Wank and Fabian Rießle , who used their "house hill" for training.

In April 2015, construction of the new lift began, the completion of which was announced at the groundbreaking on August 8th. The new lift was inaugurated on October 17th. It consists of four cars and has a track length of 240 meters. The cable car overcomes the 81 meter difference in altitude with an incline of 60% in just under two minutes. While the old chairlift had a capacity of 110 people per hour and was reserved for athletes, the new ascent aid transports 280 people an hour. Since tourists can also be transported, the run between the Rothaus and Europa-Park ski jump has become an integral part of the weekly ski jump tours. The number of jumps this season was declining with 12,784 jumps in summer and 3,094 in winter, which were declared by the ski club as lacking snow. At the same time, the ski club managed to repay the 50,000 loan for a company building.

The two large hills were most recently certified by the FIS for international competitions until 2019. Due to the resulting requirements, the coaching tower was renewed in the summer of 2016, as was the 1500 m² lawn in the run. Construction measures worth 2.2 million euros are planned for 2020, which should be completed by autumn: The inrun tower of the Rothausschanze is to be widened and provided with stairs next to the track to make grooming easier and safer in winter . The facility will continue to have a combined inrun lane, the take-off table will be flattened and adapted to the new profile, and a warm-up room and toilet will be built in the tower.
