Lukáš Hlava (born September 10, 1984 in Turnov ) is a former Czech ski jumper .

Career

Hlava made his debut at an international ski jumping competition at the Junior World Championships in Schonach in 2002, where he finished 31st. After several starts in the Continental Cup (COC), where he mostly missed the second round, he was able to start in the World Cup for the first time on January 11, 2003 via the national group . Although he only landed in the back places there, as in his second World Cup start in early February with ski flying on the Kulm , he was appointed to the Czech team for the Nordic World Ski Championships 2003 in Val di Fiemme . After he was not set up when jumping on the normal hill, he was able to achieve a 44th place on the large hill and was part of the Czech contingent in the team competition the following day. After the World Championships, he only took part in World Cup and Grand Prix competitions sporadically , never reaching the second round. At the beginning of 2004 he returned to the COC, where he took part in competitions more regularly. Although he brought only mediocre performance here, he took part in the ski flying world championship in 2004 in Planica , but retired as 47th after the first of four rounds. As a result, he appeared for the remainder of the 2003/04 season and in the two following seasons only in the Continental Cup, but was again in the Czech team at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2005 in Oberstdorf . After that, Hlava only competed in the COC for a long time and only got some World Cup appearances again in the 2006/07 season. In ski flying on Vikersundbakken , he was able to achieve World Cup points for the first time on January 13, 2007 with a 27th place. Shortly after that, on February 25th, he celebrated his first victory in a Continental Cup competition in Oberhof . After commuting between the Grand Prix and the COC at the 2007 summer jumping competitions, he started again in the World Cup at the beginning of the 2007/08 winter season. After he never reached the second round there or did not even qualify for the competition, he switched back to the Continental Cup. Only in the jumping competitions in the Czech Republic did he get World Cup appearances through the national group. With the beginning of the 2009/10 season he was again a permanent member of the Czech World Cup team.

At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , Hlava retired from the normal hill as 38th level with Jernej Damjan after the first round. Hlava fell on January 6th, 2012 and suffered an open nasal bone fracture at the Three Kings jumping event as part of the Four Hills Tournament . On March 4, 2012, he was on the Salpausselkä normal hill , the jumping had been relocated from the large hill due to strong winds, in Lahti, Finland, behind Daiki Itō and Anders Bardal, third and thus achieved his first podium at a World Cup competition. He finished the 2011/12 World Cup season in 14th place in the overall World Cup, which was his most successful season to date.

On August 19, 2012, he was third in the Grand Prix jumping in Hinterzarten and thus achieved his first podium place in the Grand Prix. At the Czech championships on September 1, 2012 from the normal hill in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm he was able to win his first national championship title. The following winter, he finished eighth in the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck, his last top ten position in an individual World Cup competition. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme, he finished 25th on the normal hill and 24th on the large hill in the individual competitions. With the Czech team he finished seventh.

Hlava was part of the Czech squad for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . He only took part in the individual competition on the normal hill and finished in 46th place. He was not nominated for the two competitions on the large hill.

After falling performance in previous years, he started again in the Continental Cup in the 2014/15 season , after having only competed in the World Cup and Grand Prix for four years. In the COC, however, he did not get past fifth place in Wisła . In the World Cup , too , he reached the finals only once in Engelberg as 27th and only got four World Cup points in the 2014/15 season. He nevertheless took part in the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun . In the individual on the normal hill he finished 32nd, in the team competition he was eighth. Also in the 2015/16 season he commuted between the COC and the World Cup, but his performance improved again. He was third in the COC jumping in Sapporo on January 23, 2016 and reached the finals in the World Cup several times . His best individual placement was 15th in Nizhny Tagil and he was 35th in the overall World Cup with 89 points.

On August 26th, 2016 he won the summer COC jumping competition in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm , the following day he came second. Hlava was part of the Czech squad for the 2017 Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti . However, he was only a substitute and was not nominated for any competition.

In February 2018, Hlava took part in the Winter Olympics for the third time in Pyeongchang , although he had not won any World Cup points in the 2017/18 season . He was only nominated for the individual competition on the large hill and failed there as 52nd in the qualification. The 2017/18 season was the first season since 2007/08 in which he did not score any World Cup points.

In May 2019, Hlava announced the end of his career and switched to the coaching staff of the Czech team.
