The 2008/09 Ski Jumping World Cup was a series of ski jumping competitions organized by the FIS World Ski Federation between November 28, 2008 and March 22, 2009 at 19 different locations in Europe, North America and Asia. The original plan was to hold 28 individual and six team competitions. The dates were confirmed at the FIS Congress on May 30, 2008 in Cape Town . An individual competition had to be canceled without replacement, another competition planned by the large hill could be moved to the normal hill after it was canceled. A canceled team competition could be rescheduled. With 27 individual and six team competitions, more competitions than ever before were included in the rating. The FIS Team Tour was held for the first time this season . The Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer won the overall standings . As the first jumper to score over 2000 points and celebrate 13 individual victories in one season, he was already the winner two competitions before the end of the season; in second and third place followed the Swiss Simon Ammann and the Austrian Wolfgang Loitzl . The defending champion Thomas Morgenstern from Austria took seventh place. Austria won the Nations Cup for the fifth time in a row with a record number of 7331 points, ahead of the teams from Finland and Norway.

Changes to the regulations

Due to the high number of ski flying competitions , for the first time since 2000/01 a discipline evaluation for ski flying is being held, the winner of which receives a small crystal ball. After the long-term title sponsor e.on Ruhrgas left , the leader in the overall World Cup is now wearing a yellow jersey again, as it did before the 2006/07 seasons , instead of the red jersey used in the last two years . The blue jersey for the winner of the qualification, which was only introduced last season, will no longer be awarded. The qualifying winner will also no longer receive any prize money.
