Career

Fairall jumped in the Continental Cup for the first time at the age of 13 , but only achieved 42nd place. Even at two FIS competitions in the summer of 2004 he did not get any outstanding results - he was at least twentieth. After he finished eleventh with the team at the Junior World Championships in 2005 in Rovaniemi , he took part in other competitions in the third-class FIS Cup . There he convinced several times and achieved eleventh place as the best result. With these good placements, he qualified again for the 2005/06 season for the Continental Cup, where he collected his first points with a 28th place. In March 2007 he went again at the Junior World Championship in Tarvisio , but deteriorated with the team to 14th place. Before that, however, he had achieved eighth place in the FIS Cup competition in Zakopane .

In the Continental Cup 2007/08 Fairall mostly jumped behind, his best result was a 37th place. But he was able to convince with the team in eighth place at the Junior World Championships in Zakopane in 2008 . During the summer of 2008, the American competed in several good jumping competitions in the summer COC , including one time thirteenth and a total of three times in the points. Because of these successes, he represented the small ski jumping nation of the United States in the World Cup and the Four Hills Tournament 2008/09 alongside Anders Johnson . Like Johnson, he almost always failed in the qualification there because he could not jump into the top 50. Only in the competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen did he survive this selection round, but he did not succeed in the competition against Michael Uhrmann . He finished the tour as 65th overall, one place behind his compatriot Johnson. Surprisingly, he qualified for the competition on his first ski flying on the Kulm , he also reached the second round there on both days and scored his first World Cup points on 23rd and 24th. Fairall took part in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , but got stuck in the qualification on both the normal and the large hill.

At the US Championships in 2012 on October 1, 2011 in Fox River Grove , he finished second behind Anders Johnson.

At the 2014 Winter Olympics , he was unable to qualify for jumping on the normal hill. He reached 35th place on the large hill and 10th place in the team.

On January 5, 2015, Fairall had a serious fall in qualifying for the Four Hills Tournament in Bischofshofen and suffered a spinal injury that had to be operated on. The injury mainly consisted of a broken and displaced lumbar vertebra , which caused symptoms of paralysis in the legs. There were also two broken ribs, a lung puncture, a kidney squeeze and slight internal bleeding. Three months after the fall, it was reported that rapid healing was not in sight, as Fairall was still unable to walk and would have to pause for a long time. Some of his doctors had suspected that the fall could result in permanent paralysis. A year after the accident, Fairall is still unable to walk and is dependent on a wheelchair. He takes part in competitions in mono water skiing .
