After he switched to the ski jumpers in the 2006/2007 season, he achieved an eighth place in the top 10 in his first World Cup competition in Kuusamo . This would be his best individual placement in the World Cup. With this placement he apparently secured himself participation in the ski jumping world championships . Due to his falling form curve, he was not taken into the final line-up for the World Cup in Sapporo by national coach Peter Rohwein . On January 17th, 2009 he won a competition in the Continental Cup for the first and only time in his career in Bischofshofen .
Ulmer is currently jumping mainly in the second-class Continental Cup or the third-class FIS Cup. His last jump in the World Cup so far was on January 9, 2011 when he finished 38th in ski flying in Harrachov . At the Winter Universiade in January 2011 in Erzurum , Turkey , when he was sixth on the large hill, he once again made people sit up and take notice.
Today Ulmer works as a sports marketing manager at the marketing agency triceps.
