Tino Edelmann (born April 13, 1985 in Annaberg-Buchholz ) is a former German Nordic combined athlete who won nine medals at major events.

Career

Edelmann started for the SC Motor Zella-Mehlis . He won three times silver and one bronze, as well as three gold and one silver with the team at the Junior World Championships in individual competitions. Including 2002 together with Florian Schillinger , Christian Beetz and Björn Kircheisen and in 2003 together with Marco Kühne , Beetz and Kircheisen,

Edelmann was a member of the German team at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf in 2005 , where he achieved his best result with 18th place in the sprint. After a weaker 2005/2006 season , he was relegated to the B World Cup, which he dominated at the beginning of the 2006/2007 season , which earned him an immediate promotion. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2007 in Sapporo , he won the silver medal in the relay with the team. In December 2007, he celebrated his first podium finish in Ramsau as third in the sprint competition.

On January 3, 2009 Edelmann won a World Cup competition for the first time at the team competition in Schonach . At the 2009 World Championships in Liberec , he took second place in the first ever mass start competition on February 20, 2009. On December 6, 2009, he achieved his first victory in an individual World Cup competition in Lillehammer . In the overall standings , he achieved his best result to date with fifth place this season. He won the competition in Lillehammer on December 6, 2009. He was victorious with the team on January 24, 2010 in Schonach. At the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver , Edelmann won the bronze medal in the team competition together with Björn Kircheisen , Eric Frenzel and Johannes Rydzek - although he only jumped a small distance and fell while running.

On February 26, 2011, Tino Edelmann celebrated his second individual silver medal at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo when his teammate Eric Frenzel won, when his competitor Felix Gottwald fell in the sprint to the finish . Two days later he was runner-up in the German 4 × 5 km relay. In the following two winters, Edelmann was able to record two more individual World Cup victories on November 26, 2011 in Kuusamo and on January 12, 2013 in Chaux-Neuve , in addition to several podium finishes .

On January 12, 2014 he won the team sprint in Chaux-Neuve with Fabian Rießle and on January 15, 2014 he was part of the winning team in Oberstdorf . At the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi , Edelmann took ninth place on the normal hill. He was not used in the second individual and team competition.

At the 2015 World Championships in Falun , Edelmann became world champion for the first time when he won the team competition together with Eric Frenzel , Fabian Rießle and Johannes Rydzek and won the first gold medal in this discipline for Germany in 28 years.

On November 4, 2016, he announced his immediate retirement from competitive sports.

For his sporting success he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Köhler in 2010.
