Tsugiharu Ogiwara (born December 20, 1969 in Kusatsu , Gunma Prefecture ) is a former Japanese Nordic combined athlete . He took part in the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano and was once world champion with the Japanese team in 1995. During his active time he started for the Kitano Construction Corporation.

Career

On December 12, 1993, he won the B World Cup in Kuopio, ahead of Glenn Skram from Norway and the Finn Sami Kallunki . On March 19, 1994, Tsugiharu Ogiwara made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup at the World Cup in Thunder Bay, Canada . He finished the competition in 12th place and collected a total of 42 World Cup points. At the end of the 1993/94 season he was 45th in the overall World Cup with a total of 80 points.

The 1994/95 season was Tsugiharu Ogiwara's most successful season in the World Cup. On January 14, 1995 he finished second behind his twin brother Kenji Ogiwara and ahead of the Norwegian Bjarte Engen Vik at the World Cup in Liberec . On February 9, 1995, he finished second again at the World Cup in Oslo . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay , Canada , he was part of the Japanese team. He formed together with Kenji Ogiwara, Masashi Abe and Takanori Kōno he the Japanese relay and the quartet won the gold medal before the relay from Norway and Switzerland. At the end of the season he finished behind Kenji Ogiwara, Bjarte Engen Vik and Knut Tore Apeland in the overall World Cup .

On January 11, 1998, he won the B World Cup in Reit im Winkl, Germany, ahead of the Norwegian Sverre Rotevatn and the Italian Andrea Cecon . He qualified for the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , his home country, and was nominated for the Winter Games by the Nippon Olympic Iinkai . After he took sixth place in the individual competition, he formed the Japanese relay together with Satoshi Mori, Gen Tomii and Kenji Ogiwara and they took fifth place in the competition.

Tsugiharu Ogiwara is the twin brother of Kenji Ogiwara . Kenji also practiced Nordic combined and is a double Olympic champion and four-time world champion.
