Jarl Magnus Riiber (born October 15, 1997 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian Nordic combined athlete . His greatest successes were winning the overall World Cup in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons as well as the gold medal in the individual on the normal hill at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld .

Career

In the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2014 in Val di Fiemme won Riiber with the Norwegian team the bronze medal in the team competition and finished second in the individual competitions places 6 and 11. On 6 December 2014 he was in Lillehammer its debut in the World Cup , where he with Rank 28 in the Gundersen competition was able to achieve World Cup points. At his third World Cup start on January 16, 2015 in Seefeld , he achieved his first podium finish in the World Cup with third place on the first stage of the Nordic Combined Triple . In February 2015 he won the gold medal at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Almaty in both the Gundersen and the sprint competition and was third in the team competition with the Norwegian team. Riiber occasionally takes part in competitions in special jumping and was able to win a competition for the first time as part of the Ski Jumping Continental Cup on August 21, 2016 in Kuopio, Finland .

Riiber was a participant in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Korea . Both in the Gundersen competition on the normal hill and on the large hill, he finished fourth and thus missed the medal ranks. In the relay , he was able to win the silver medal behind the German team on February 22, 2018 together with Jan Schmid , Espen Andersen and Jørgen Graabak .

The 2018/19 World Cup season started promisingly for Riiber with a second place in Ruka, Finland, behind Mario Seidl . At the second stop in his home town of Lillehammer , he was able to win all three competitions - including a mass start - and thus win the overall Lillehammer Tour ranking. In the further course of the season, Riiber won another seven Gundersen competitions and was already the overall World Cup winner at the beginning of February after the World Cup weekend in Klingenthal . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld in 2019 , Riiber was the big favorite at the start. In the Gundersen competition on the large hill , however, he missed the podium with a fifth place. Two days later he was able to break away from the Austrian Bernhard Gruber in the final sprint and, together with Jan Schmid, win the silver medal in the team sprint behind the German Eric Frenzel and Fabian Rießle . At the Gundersen competition on the normal hill , Riiber went to the cross-country ski run as the leader after a jump on 107.0 meters , where he was able to defend his lead from jumping and became world champion.

In the 2019/20 World Cup season , Riiber won the Nordic Combined Triple in Seefeld and the overall World Cup.
