Hubert Schwarz (born September 13, 1960 in Oberaudorf ) is a former German skier who was successful in Nordic combined and ski jumping .

Career

Schwarz began his international career with a focus on ski jumping. So he made his debut at the Four Hills Tournament 1977/78 . With rank 21 in Oberstdorf on the Schattenbergschanze he immediately landed in a good place in the midfield. It was the best placement of the tour, which he finished in 28th place in the tour's overall ranking. It was therefore his most successful career in the aftermath. On August 13th, he achieved a remarkable victory in an international mat jumping competition against the almost complete Austrian elite at Kaelberstein near Berchtesgaden .
At the Four Hills Tournament 1978/79 he only finished 65th overall. However, he achieved the best individual result with rank 17 in Oberstdorf.

In 1979 he won his first German championship title. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1979 in Mt. St. Anne, he started as a Nordic combined athlete for the first time and won the bronze medal in the individual.

For the 1979/80 season , Schwarz made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup on December 30, 1979 as part of the 1979/80 Four Hills Tournament . After only two competitions, he was 73rd overall at the end of the tour.

At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , black started jumping and combining. After only finishing 25th and 41st in ski jumping on the normal and large hill, he finished the combined singles in ninth place. Only a few days after the games he started again in the combined at the Junior World Championships in 1980 in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, and secured the gold medal in the individual.

On December 30, 1980, he jumped for the last time in a World Cup competition and won another five World Cup points as 11th, with which he was able to finish the season in 70th place. He also achieved his best individual ski jumping World Cup result of his career. As a result, he focused only on the combination.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1982 , he and the team just barely missed his first world championship medal in fourth place. On December 29, 1983, he made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup in Oberwiesenthal . With rank 11 he immediately proved his skills and won his first World Cup points. In January 1984 he achieved a top 10 result for the first time in Schonach in the Black Forest, finishing sixth. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 1984 in Rovaniemi , he reached fifth place with the team. At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , he finished 24th in the individual.

At the beginning of the 1984/85 season he reached his first World Cup podium with second place in Planica . She was also on the podium in St. Moritz and in January in Schonach. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 1985 in Seefeld in Tirol , he surprisingly won the gold medal in the team competition with Thomas Müller and Hermann Weinbuch . After further good results, he ended his most successful World Cup season in third place overall.

In the 1985/86 season , Black did not succeed in continuing his successful streak. Only at the last World Cup of the season he reached the podium again in Štrbské Pleso . In January 1987 he achieved the first and only victory in his career in Schonach.

His greatest sporting success came a good year later at the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary when he won the relay gold medal with Hans-Peter Pohl and Thomas Müller. At the age of 27, he was only able to reach 13th place in the individual. He finished the last World Cup of the season in Oslo in 14th place. In the same year he also won the national individual title in combination for the second time.

In his last three World Cups in the 1988/89 season , he managed only a tenth place. After the season, which he finished 22nd overall, he ended his active career.

He received the Silver Laurel Leaf for his athletic achievements.

After retiring from his career, Schwarz studied business administration from 1990 to 1994 . He then took over the finance department of DSV Verwaltungs GmbH , a company of the German Ski Association, as managing director .

In his spare time, Black, who was a contract soldier until 1990, played football in the regional league.
