Janne Pekka Ryynänen (born January 1, 1988 in Rovaniemi ) is a Finnish Nordic combined .

Career

Ryynänen, who starts for Ounasvaaran Hiihtoseura , made his international debut at the 2003 Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Sollefteå . In the team mass start he reached sixth place with the team. In the sprint singles he finished 15th. From March 2003 Ryynänen started in the B-World Cup of the Nordic Combined. Already in his first competition in Kuusamo he reached the points in 21st place. Also in the 2003/04 season he started after two poor results in Rovaniemi with a point win in Lillehammer .

After Ryynänen reached seventh place in the sprint at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Stryn in 2004 and finished fourth with the team, he made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup on March 5, 2004 in the Lahti sprint . However, since he remained without World Cup points until the end of the season and also at the beginning of the 2004/05 season , he went back to the B World Cup. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2005 in Rovaniemi , he again missed a medal. In the individual he reached fifth place. In the team mass start he reached seventh place with the team. In the sprint, he did not get past 15th place again.

For the 2005/06 season he came back to the national team and already reached the points in the first competition in Kuusamo. On December 17, 2005, in Ramsau am Dachstein , he achieved a top 10 position for the first time in tenth place. After further placements in the World Cup points, he received the nomination for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin . The 18-year-old only started in the sprint and reached rank 37, after being ranked 29th after jumping. A year later he won the gold medal in the team competition at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo together with Anssi Koivuranta , Jaakko Tallus and Hannu Manninen .

Despite this success, Ryynänen started a little later at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2007 in Tarvisio . However, he fell short of expectations and, after finishing 60th in the individual with the team, again failed to achieve a medal in sixth place and finished sixth. In the sprint, he finished 21st in the end. At the following World Cups, with two exceptions, he was regularly in the points. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 2008 , he also won his first junior medal in singles and took bronze.

In November 2008 in Kuusamo at the beginning of the 2008/09 season he achieved second place twice and thus his first two podium places. As a result, he could not achieve this rank for the first time. After a medalless start at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec , he started the following year for his second 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . After he did not achieve a good result in the individual on the normal hill as 26th, he surprised the competition with 12th place on the large hill. With the Finnish team, he finished seventh in the team competition. In August 2010 he started in the Summer Grand Prix for the first time and was on the podium again as third in the individual in Oberstdorf .

After he achieved a good position in the points without exception from the beginning of the 2009/10 season , he started at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo . However, he was again without a medal success. At the start of the 2011/12 season, he was again on the podium in Kuusamo. He finished the 2012 Summer Grand Prix in all races in the top ten and in the end in ninth place overall. The following season 2012/13 began weakly and without great success for Ryynänen. He was again without a medal at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2013 in Val di Fiemme . In the individual on the normal hill he only finished 29th before he only finished eighth with the team in the team competition. In the individual on the large hill, he finished 26th.

Although he subsequently remained without top placements in individual World Cups, he started at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi in February 2014 . In his third games Ryynänen reached 36th place on the normal hill and 40th place on the large hill.
