The 48th Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 took place from February 23 to March 6, 2011 in the Norwegian capital Oslo on Holmenkollen . This was decided on May 25, 2006 during the FIS Congress in Vilamoura ( Portugal ). Oslo prevailed with twelve votes against Val di Fiemme / Italy (four votes) and Zakopane / Poland (no vote). Oslo had previously hosted four Nordic World Ski Championships in 1930, 1952, 1966 and 1982.
For the female ski jumpers, a team competition should be introduced after their individual competition debut at the 2009 World Championships , but this was rejected in March 2009. On the other hand, a second team competition was held for the men, which had been on the program again and again in the past or had been canceled. In the Nordic Combined, the mass start competition was canceled, instead there was a second team competition with jumping from the normal hill.
Host Norway was the most successful nation with eight gold medals - all in cross-country competitions - and with this result set a new record at the Nordic World Ski Championships. However, there had never been so many competitions before as at this World Cup. All ski jumping competitions as well as the team competitions in Nordic combined were won by Austrian athletes. The most successful participant was the Norwegian cross-country skier Marit Bjørgen with three individual gold medals and one in the relay. There was also a silver medal. Cross-country skier Petter Northug from Norway won two individual titles, another with the relay and was also twice vice world champion. The Austrian ski jumpers Thomas Morgenstern and Gregor Schlierenzauer were each world champion three times. Two of these titles went to the Austrian ski jumping team. Morgenstern also won a silver medal in an individual competition.

Date: March 5, 2011
The second round was canceled due to the wind and the status after the first round was evaluated.
Andreas Kofler improved his own hill record from 139.5 to 141.0 meters.
Austria won this competition for the fourth time in a row after 2005, 2007 and 2009.
Gregor Schlierenzauer put the Austrians in the lead, but after the second group Germany was ahead, and after Kofler's hill record there was an advantage of Germany with 361 points over Austria with 359 points. It was followed by Norway (331.0), Poland (312.4) and Slovenia (312.0). The Slovenian final jumper Robert Kranjec presented a 136-meter jump, which received a high jury rating; The Pole Adam Małysz barely lagged behind with 135.5 meters, but received worse posture marks, but above all a higher wind point deduction (18.2 compared to 5.2). Norway's Tom Hilde reached 127.5 meters; the German Michael Uhrmann only managed 110 meters. After Thomas Morgenstern's jump to 140.5 meters, Germany fell back to fourth place, 0.7 points behind the third-placed Slovenes.

Date: March 4, 2011
After jumping from the large hill, the French team was still ahead, but was overtaken by the three nations behind early in the race. Even the strong final runner Lamy Chappuis could not catch up on the third placed Norwegians with their equally strong Moan and waived a final attack. As on the normal hill, there was a final sprint between the German Tino Edelmann and Mario Stecher, which the Austrian narrowly won again.
For Felix Gottwald this was already the eleventh medal at the Nordic World Ski Championships. He replaced Ronny Ackermann (ten medals) as the most successful world championship medal collector in the combined camp.
