Daito Takahashi ( Japanese 高橋 大 斗 Takahashi Daito ; born December 16, 1980 in Kita-Akita , Akita Prefecture ) is a Japanese skier who competed internationally from 1999 to 2012 as a Nordic combined and since then as an international ski jumper .

Career

Nordic combination

Daito Takahashi is a successful combiner, although he has never won a medal at major events. The athlete, who started for Tsuchiya Home , has been practicing the sport since 1993. His national debut took place in 1998, his international one in 1999, at a World Cup in Vuokatti (38th). Since then he has competed in over 125 world cup races. In January 2000 he came in eighth place in the top 10 in Val di Fiemme for the first time. In 2002 he came third in Liberec for the first time on the podium. In the 2003/04 World Cup season , he was finally able to win his first two and so far only World Cup races in Lahti on two consecutive days.

At the Olympic Games in 2002 and 2006 in Salt Lake City and Turin , he competed in all three races of the combination. His best finish was sixth in the Soldier Hollow sprint . In Pragelato Plan , he finished sixth with the team, but narrowly missed a medal, barely more than a second behind, in a gripping final. His appearances at Nordic World Ski Championships were mostly mixed, his best placings were tenth in the individual in 2003 and the same rank in the sprint in 2005. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo in 2007 , he fell seriously while jumping and broke his shoulder.

Takahashi is considered to be one of the strongest jumpers in the field of combiners. Several times he was already in the front after the jumping, but was unable to bring this lead to the finish due to his poor mileage. His last Nordic combined competition so far was at an FIS race in Sapporo in March 2013 , where he finished tenth.

Ski jumping

In February 2012, Takahashi took in a FIS jumping in Sapporo for the first time in an international competition in special jumping part and was ranked No. 24. After another FIS competition in Sapporo it was used for the first time outside of Japan in September 2013, won the Romanian Râşnov once a FIS Cup jumping and took second place in the second competition there. This was followed in January 2014 at the jumping in Sapporo in the Continental Cup , where he took 13th place on the large hill. On January 25, 2014 he made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup in Sapporo and immediately jumped 30th in the points.
