The 2001/02 Nordic Combined World Cup season began on November 23, 2001 in Kuopio, Finland and ended on March 16, 2002 at Holmenkollen near Oslo . During the season, the Winter Olympics took place in Salt Lake City from February 8 to 24, 2002 .

Ronny Ackermann won the overall World Cup ahead of last year's winner Felix Gottwald from Austria and the Finn Samppa Lajunen . Like Gottwald, he celebrated six World Cup victories. Ronny Ackermann is only the second German overall World Cup winner after Hermann Weinbuch , who last achieved this in the 1985/86 season . Ackermann was also able to win the Sprint World Cup.

In addition to Ackermann, the other German combiners also impressed. So could Bjoern Kircheisen and Georg Hettich pick up their first podium finishes. On the other hand, Bill Demong celebrated his first World Cup victory in the individual race in Liberec . The Finns won the only team competition of the World Cup season ahead of the teams from Austria and Germany . For the German team it was the first podium finish in a team competition in the World Cup.
