The 1997/98 Nordic Combined World Cup season began on November 28, 1997 in Rovaniemi, Finland and ended on March 14, 1998 at Holmenkollen near Oslo . During the season were from 07 to 22 February 1998 Olympic Winter Games of Nagano discharged. The number of sprint races has been increased significantly from two to six.
With his five World Cup victories, the Norwegian Bjarte Engen Vik won the overall World Cup just ahead of the Austrian Mario Stecher . Third in the overall standings was Felix Gottwald , who was able to take his first two podium places. For last year's winner Samppa Lajunen from Finland there was only one World Cup victory this season.
In contrast, the American Todd Lodwick was able to convince with his victories in Schonach and Oslo . The season was also successful for Kenneth Braaten, who celebrated his first, but only World Cup victory. The first World Cup for the Czech Republic was Milan Kučera with his victory in the French Chaux-Neuve win. Marco Zarucchi and Urs Kunz were able to secure three podium places for Switzerland .
