Jouni Mikael Kaitainen (born June 9, 1980 in Lahti ) is a former Finnish Nordic combined athlete .
Career
Jouni Kaitainen is married and starts for Lahden Hiihtoseura . He has been skiing since 1985 and at an international level since 1997. At the Junior World Championships in 1999 in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer , he won the silver medal behind Samppa Lajunen in the Gundersen competition . In March of that year he made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup in a sprint race in Falun and finished twelfth. In January 2000, when he finished eighth in Val di Fiemme , he was among the top ten for the first time. A short time later at the Junior World Championship in 2000 in Štrbské Pleso , he won the gold medal with the Finnish relay, which also included Jaakko Tallus .
In 2003 Kaitainen started in Val di Fiemme for the first time at a Nordic World Ski Championships and won the bronze medal behind Austria and Germany with the Finnish team around Hannu Manninen , Lajunen and Tallus . Two years later he missed a medal with the Finnish team in fourth place in Oberstdorf . In more than 115 World Cup starts (as of December 10, 2007), he was able to achieve places in the top ten 16 times. The best result so far is third place in a Gundersen competition in his home town of Lahti in March 2003. The best result in the overall World Cup was a 16th place in the 2003/04 season .
In 2008 Kaitainen ended his active career.
