Marco Zarucchi (born January 22, 1972 in St. Gallen ) is a former Swiss Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Zarucchi, who started for the SC Alpina in St. Moritz , made his major international debut at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville . Although he had not yet started in the World Cup, he finished 29th in the individual games and 10th with the team. Zarucchi finally made his debut in the Nordic Combined World Cup on December 19, 1992 in his home country. With the 15th place he secured his first World Cup point. At the end of the season he finished 36th in the overall World Cup ranking. More than a year later he was in the B squad in the B World Cup. In Szczyrk he finished third and celebrated his first podium result.

For the 1994/95 season he was a member of the senior national team for the first time and already collected World Cup points again at the first World Cup in Steamboat Springs . At the end of the season he finished 49th overall with 72 points. He won his first national title at the Swiss Nordic Combined Championships in 1995 in St. Moritz.

In the 1995/96 season he started with a first podium by a third place in Steamboat Springs. With 549 points that he was able to collect at the other World Cups, he was finally 11th overall. It was his most successful season in his entire athletic career. At the beginning of the following winter he was not part of the national team. Instead, he started again in the B World Cup from January 1997. Zarucchi achieved clear victories in Johanngeorgenstadt , Liberec , Flühli and Lake Placid as well as a second place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . He then came back to the A-squad and landed second place at the World Cup in Ramsau am Dachstein, the best World Cup result of his career.

At his second Olympic Winter Games in Nagano in 1998 , he reached rank 25 in the individual competition. With Andy Hartmann , Jean-Yves Cuendet and Urs Kunz he reached seventh place in the team competition.

At the Swiss Championships in Nordic Combined in 1998 in Chaux-Neuve , France , Zarucchi won the silver medal again. In his last season in 1998/99 he convinced again with good results. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein , he finished 19th in the Gundersen singles. With the team he reached ninth place. In the sprint singles, he finished 17th after jumping and running. After the World Championship he reached eighth place in the Zakopane singles and finished his last season in 19th place overall.
