The Nordic Combined World Cup season 1987/88 started on December 18, 1987 in Bad Goisern ( Austria ) and ended on March 25, 1988 in Rovaniemi, Finland . During the season of 13 who found until February 28, 1988 Winter Olympics from Calgary instead.

While nine World Cup races were held last season , this season was shortened to seven races due to the Olympic Games. The Austrian Klaus Sulzenbacher won the first race in front of his home crowd and at the same time achieved the first World Cup success for Austria . With a further three wins and two second places, he was finally able to win the overall World Cup ranking well ahead of the Norwegian Torbjørn Løkken and Andreas Schaad from Switzerland.

Thomas Müller and Uwe Prenzel ensured the only German podium places with their third places in St. Moritz and Oslo . This was the first World Cup season without a German success. In addition to Andreas Schaad, Hippolyt Kempf was able to achieve another podium for Switzerland in Seefeld . Shortly thereafter, he became Olympic champion in Calgary.
