Sami Leinonen (born September 30, 1963 ) is a former Finnish Nordic combined skier who started for Lahden Hiihtoseura when he was active .

Career

In the second season of the Nordic Combined World Cup , Sami Leinonen made his debut on March 2, 1985 at the World Cup in Lahti at home in the Nordic Combined World Cup . In his very first World Cup competition he finished ninth. At the end of the season he finished 29th in the overall World Cup with a total of eight points.

Sami Leinonen had his best season in the 1987/88 World Cup . He qualified for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada, and was allowed to compete there in the individual competition for Finland . He finished the competition as the third best Finn in 17th place. Jouko Parviainen was preferred to him in the team competition . At the World Cup in Falun , Sweden , he took third place on March 12, 1988 behind the Austrian Klaus Sulzenbacher and Wassili Sawin from the Soviet Union, which was his first and only podium in the World Cup. At the home World Cup in Rovaniemi on March 25, 1988, he just missed the podium in fourth. In the overall World Cup, he finished 13th as the best Finn with a total of 27 points.

Sami Leinonen collected his last World Cup points on February 17, 1990 at the World Cup in the Czechoslovak town of Štrbské Pleso . With twelfth place, he was able to collect four World Cup points again and finally finished 28th in the overall World Cup.
