The 45 meter high bell tower from 1454 was made by her. As the church had become unstable, it had to be demolished in 1856. The present basilica was built between 1856 and 1861 based on a design by Giacomo Moraglia. After his death in 1860, the construction was continued by Camillo Boito, who was able to complete the facade in 1870. The single-nave church has a length of 89 meters and a width of 17.30 meters. The dome has a diameter of 18 meters and a height of 27 meters. Extensive restoration work began in 2016.

Furnishing

From 1885 onwards, the interior was first managed by Carlo Maciachini . The church received important frescoes by Luigi Cavenaghi from 1887 to 1891. For the gilding and statues, the brothers Stocchetti and Cavenaghi continued to work with the gilder Giuseppe Tosi and the plasterers Giacomo Sozzi, Antonio Soldini, Giacomo Bertini and the sculptor Odoardo Tabacchi on the interior of the basilica.

The organ dates from 1922.
