Margaret Kohn (pianist)

Margaret Sherman Kohn (born May 4, 1928 in Boston ) is an American pianist and music teacher .

Margaret Sherman attended Radcliffe College until 1950, when she married the composer and pianist Karl Kohn . She began her musical training with Antoinette Doering and continued with Jesús María Sanromá and Jan Smeterlin . At Harvard University she studied with Irving Fine , Walter Piston , Randall Thompson and Paul Hindemith . From 1970 she taught piano at Pomona College . She has performed as a piano duo with her husband since she was a student. They gave concerts together in North America, Europe and Japan and made radio recordings in Mexico City and New York , Helsinki , London and Tokyo . Her repertoire included most of the works composed for two pianos or piano four hands with an emphasis on the music of the 20th century.
