The Nordic Combined World Cup season 1989/90 began on December 16, 1989 in St. Moritz, Switzerland and ended on March 16, 1990 at Holmenkollen near Oslo . The World Cup decision was made in nine World Cup events.

The overall World Cup was won by Austrian Klaus Sulzenbacher with five World Cup wins ahead of Allar Levandi, who started for the Soviet Union , and Norwegian Knut Tore Apeland . Sulzenbacher was able to win the overall World Cup for the second time after the 1987/88 season. He is the first Nordic combined athlete to do this.

In addition to Sulzenbacher, the Norwegians Knut Tore Apeland and Fred Børre Lundberg , who won his first World Cup, also impressed . In addition, could Hippolyt Kempf from Switzerland and Andrei Dundukow celebrate a World Cup victory. After Vasily Sawin, Dundukov achieved the second and last World Cup success for the Soviet Union.

The only German podium was achieved by Thomas Abratis, who started for the GDR in his last season , with his second place at Holmenkollen . In addition, the French Fabrice Guy once again made people sit up and take notice with his second and third place.
