Uwe Prenzel (born June 15, 1966 in Sebnitz ) is a former German Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Prenzel, who started for SC Dynamo Klingenthal , made his international debut at the Junior World Championships in 1985 in Täsch, where he finished 17th in the individual competition and fifth in the team competition. Two years later he started at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf in 1987 . As a member of the team competition, he finished sixth together with Marko Frank and Thomas Abratis . A year earlier he had celebrated his first national success with the team victory in the Nordic combined at the GDR ski championships in 1986 in Schmiedefeld .

From the 1987/88 season he started in the Nordic Combined World Cup . In January 1988 he achieved a top 10 result for the first time in fifth place in St. Moritz . At the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , Prenzel just barely missed a medal in the individual competition, finishing fourth. In the team competition, he finished fifth together with Marko Frank and his two years younger brother Thomas Prenzel . A few weeks later, he celebrated his second national title at the GDR ski championships in 1988 in Oberhof . On March 18, 1988, he achieved his first and only World Cup podium with third place at Holmenkollen in Oslo . He thus reached seventh place in the overall World Cup ranking. In the following two years he was unable to build on this success. He finished the 1988/89 season as 26th and the 1989/90 season as 25th overall.

At the 11th Dynamo Spartakiade of skiers in Štrbské Pleso, he won the individual competition. From the 1990/91 season, Prenzel started in the B World Cup. In February 1992 he achieved his first podium finish in this series in Andelsbuch with third place. Only a few days later he celebrated two victories in Klingenthal and Schwarzach . In 1993 Prenzel finally ended his active career.

Today Prenzel works for the city marketing association "Wir in Auerbach" in Auerbach / Vogtl.
