Thomas Abratis (born May 6, 1967 in Waldheim ) is a former German Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Abratis was the first time GDR champion in the individual and with the team. He celebrated his first international success at the Junior World Championship in 1987, where he won the gold medal with the GDR team. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1987 in Oberstdorf that took place in the same year , he was sixth with the team. On December 17, 1988 Abratis started in the Nordic Combined World Cup for the first time and immediately reached ninth place in Saalfelden and thus World Cup points. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 , he was able to achieve his greatest international success by winning the bronze medal in the team competition. After the World Cup he missed in Oslo with fourth place could just be the first World Cup podium, was then but in Swedish Falun achieve a place on the podium with second place for the first time. Also in the following season 1989/90 he reached only top placements, including a second place again, but this time in Oslo. At the end of the season he finished fifth in the overall World Cup standings. From 1991 Abratis started at the same time in the B World Cup and was also able to achieve podium finishes there. In February and March 1993 he was able to win two competitions in Oberhof and Hinterzarten .

From December 1993 he started again firmly in the World Cup, but could not build on the successes of 1989 and 1990. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , he started in the individual and team competition of Nordic combined . In the individual, he reached 22nd place after he was 24th after jumping. In the team competition, he reached tenth place together with Thomas Dufter and Roland Braun . From January 1995 he was able to place himself in the top ten in the World Cup. However, there were no podium places. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay , he only started in the team competition and achieved sixth place with his teammates. At the German Championships in 1996 he won the title in the individual competition. After he was able to finish in the top ten several times over the course of the year in the World Cup and came second in the B World Cup in January 1997, he ended his active career after the 1996/97 season . Before that, he was able to win the title again with the team at the German Championships.

From 2000 to 2003 Abratis was Vice President of the VSC Klingenthal. He has been the FIS Technical Delegate for Nordic Combined since 2003.
