GDR Ski Championships 1988

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 40th GDR Ski Championships took place on March 5th and 6th, 1988 in a shortened form in Oberhof , Brotterode and Oberwiesenthal . Originally the championships were to take place from January 6th to 10th in Lauscha, Thuringia, in the Nordic ski disciplines of cross-country skiing , Nordic combined and ski jumping from the normal hill. Due to mild weather and a lack of snow, however, the DSLV canceled the championships on January 4th. Until the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary there was no more event date, so a rump program was carried out on the first weekend after the Games in early March. This included the scheduled cross-country skiing championships over the long distances in Oberwiesenthal and the ski jumping championships on the large hill in Brotterode, as Lauscha only had one normal hill. From the program in Lauscha only one team championship in the Nordic combined was held in Oberhof, so that in the end only four decisions were made.
