GDR ski championships 1987

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 39th GDR Ski Championships took place from March 7th to 15th, 1987 in Klingenthal , Saxony . In eleven decisions, seven individual and four team competitions, the Nordic ski disciplines cross-country skiing , ski jumping and Nordic combined , 185 participants entered. The long duration of the event was due to the international sports calendar, which for the first time led to a separation between the jumping and running competitions, between which Tuesday was the rest day. Some top cross-country skiers were still present at the Swedish Ski Games in Falun on the first weekend of the event . This dichotomy did not meet with unanimous enthusiasm in the press either. The long distance championships over 20 km for women and 50 km for men were held on March 20, 1987 in Masserberg .

However, Blechschmidt caught up halfway through the race and passed. In the end he crossed the finish line with a lead of over a minute and was able to celebrate his first championship title.
