Manfred Deckert (born March 31, 1961 in Halle (Saale) ) is a former German ski jumper and local politician ( independent ).

Career

He spent his childhood in Johanngeorgenstadt , where he got to know winter sports and his father of the same name worked as a sports teacher at the Pestalozzi-POS. Due to his achievements, he then attended the children's and youth sports school in Klingenthal , where he also passed the Abitur. He belonged to the SC Dynamo Klingenthal . The cross-country skier Alf-Gerd Deckert is his older brother.

At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , Deckert was able to win the silver medal while jumping from the normal hill, tied with the Japanese Hirokazu Yagi . His trainer was Jürgen Wolf from Klingenthal . On January 3, 1982, he won his only World Cup competition in Innsbruck. In the 1981/1982 season he won the overall ranking of the Four Hills Tournament with this victory . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1985 in Seefeld in Tirol , he won the bronze medal in team jumping together with Frank Sauerbrey , Klaus Ostwald and Jens Weißflog .

After his active career, he worked as a trainer at SC Dynamo Klingenthal until its liquidation in 1990. After six months of unemployment, Deckert worked for a company ( Duravit ) in the heating and plumbing industry for 17 years .

Since August 4th, 2008 he has been the mayor of the city of Auerbach / Vogtl , established by the SPD . and member of the SPD parliamentary group in the Vogtlandkreis .

Manfred Deckert has been honorary president of the VSC Klingenthal since August 1997.
