Esa Veikko Antero Kankkonen (born January 5, 1940 in Sotkamo , Finland ) is a former Finnish ski jumper .

Career

He was the overall winner of the Four Hills Tournament in 1963/64 and 1965/66 . At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , he won gold on the normal hill (in Seefeld ) and silver on the large hill (on Bergisel ). Since the Nordic World Ski Championships were held this year as part of the Olympic Games, Kankkonen became world champion and vice world champion at the same time. In the same year he received the Holmenkollen Medal . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1962 he was tenth on the normal hill, in 1963 he won the Holmenkollenspringen.

He was unable to compete in the 1966 World Championships due to an injury.

At the 1968 Winter Olympics he was the flag bearer of Finland, but could not win any medals.
