Hemmo Valio Silvennoinen (born November 6, 1932 in Kesälahti , † December 4, 2002 in Vantaa ) was a Finnish ski jumper .
Career
Silvennoinen started for the clubs Puijon Hiihtoseura and Helsingin Tovereita . In the 1954/55 season he was the first Finn to win the Four Hills Tournament with 878.0 points , where he was part of the Finnish "wonder team" alongside Aulis Kallakorpi , Eino Kirjonen and Matti Pietikäinen . He finished the jumping in Oberstdorf (1954), Innsbruck (1955) and Bischofshofen (1955) in second place and the one in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (1955) in third place. This made Silvennoinen the first ski jumper to win the Four Hills Tournament without a day's victory. He also won the International Ski Flying Week in Oberstdorf in 1955 from the Heini-Klopfer ski jumping hill .
In the Four Hills Tournament in the 1955/56 season, Silvennoinen started as defending champion. Although he disregarded the prescribed alcohol ban on New Year's Eve and was thrown from the team, he was able to win the New Year's competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1956 after his teammates protested and Silvennoinen's expulsion was lifted.
In the tenth Four Hills Tournament in 1961/62 he was able to finish third with 843.2 points. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1962 in Zakopane , Poland , Silvennoinen was fourth on the normal hill with 218.9 points.
